Updated 50-state noncompete chart updated for new legislation.

Correction/update: Although the Florida bill has an effective date of today (July 1), Governor DeSantis has until Thursday (July 3, not today) to either sign or veto; if he does neither, the bill will automatically become law.

We just updated our 50-State Noncompete Chart again.

This update reflects new legislation passed so far this year in Arkansas (effective August 3, 2025), Colorado (effective August 6, 2025), Indiana (effective July 1, 2025), Montana (effective April 15, 2025, and January 1, 2026, respectively), Oregon (effective June 9, 2025), Texas (effective September 1, 2025), Utah (effective May 7, 2025), Wyoming (effective July 1, 2025), and Virginia (effective July 1, 2025).

Our chart — which was the first of its kind (created in 2010) and is regularly updated — is now fully up to date through today (June 29, 2025). Please note that we are waiting to see whether Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signs a bill making monumental changes to its law; he has only until Thursday, July 3, 2025.

We will continue to update the chart as additional significant developments arise across the country.
