As you will recall, the FTC began its journey toward regulating noncompetes in 2018. It held two workshops along the way: the first in person on January 9, 2020, and the second over two half-days on December 6 and 7 2021. Those workshops eventually led to the FTC’s Noncompete Rule.
In the past month, the FTC abandoned the noncompete rule (no surprise), stepped up enforcement actions, sought public input on companies abusing noncompetes, and sent warning letters to healthcare and staffing companies.
Now, the FTC will be holding a workshop on noncompetes on Wednesday, October 8 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM ET. It will be in-person, but also streamed through the FTC’s website.
The agenda is as follows:
- Keynote Address: Andrew Ferguson, FTC Chairman
- Panel 1: Locked out of Work: Victims of Anticompetitive Noncompetes
- Panel 2: Unleashing the American Worker: Policy Perspectives on Noncompetes
- Panel 3: Counting the Costs: The Economics of Noncompetes
The speakers have not, to my knowledge, been announced.
Stay tuned, we’ll keep you posted. The link to watch it streamed will be available the morning of the workshop (on October 8).
